Implant Dentistry

Implant dentistry is used to replace a damaged or missing tooth with an artificial root and tooth. The procedure is completed in multiple stages and can take between 6-9 months.

Due to its extensive nature, not every patient is a good candidate for the procedure. If you meet the qualifications below, you may be an ideal candidate for dental implants:
  • Have one or more missing teeth
  • Having sufficient jawbone mass
  • Healthy, disease-free gums
  • In good physical and oral health
  • Unable to wear dentures

How Dental Implant Surgery Works?

A comprehensive dental exam will take place, with Dr. Moore or Dr. Berry taking X-rays and making molds of your mouth and teeth. He will also explain the process and answer any questions you may have.

Next, the damaged tooth will be removed if it hasn't already. Depending on your needs, local anesthetic or IV sedation will be used before the artificial root is inserted. Dr. Moore is highly experienced in sedation dentistry and is one of the few general dentists in Indiana licensed for IV sedation.

A hole is cut into the gum to expose the bone, then holes are drilled into the bone and the artificial root is inserted. This may take several months to complete, as the bone must fuse with the artificial root to create a solid base for the implant.

Once your jawbone has healed and grown around the artificial root, an extension must be connected. This step may require additional minor surgery and some more healing time. Once the extension is in place, additional molds of your teeth are created to make the artificial tooth (crown).

When it is created, the crown is attached to the root. It can be permanent or removable.

Dr. Berry or Dr. Moore will create a specialized treatment utilizing the latest 3D technology (CBCT) to create a virtual surgical plan. We pride ourselves on conservative dental work to ensure you feel comfortable at all times. Call 317-348-1354 to schedule your appointment. Most dental insurance is accepted, including CareCredit.
